Postcard Revised (Final)
For the Visual Communication Arts degree at B.C.C., I chose to go with a design that is modern and straight to the point. Using the Apple computer to grasp the students eye being that now-a-days everyone has heard, seen, and dreamed of having an Apple computer or any Apple product. To make the background of the postcard stand out to make sure the viewer knows what kind of computer it is, I enlarged the apple logo to draw more attention to it as well as adjusted the levels on the upper part of the postcard where the "dock" resides to put more emphasis on the Mac. The postcard includes almost all of the Visual Communication Arts degree programs by using the mac for all computer incorporated classes and i applied a paint brush filter over the background to show that there are degree programs that do have to do with hand drawing and hand painting, it is not all computer generated.
In order for the text to stand out, I used the levels option in Photoshop to darken the lower part of the image, the keyboard while still keeping the wood grain part of the image viable. for the text, I used bright and vivid colors to make the text pop right out of the postcard saying "You must read me!" Alternating the colors of the actual programs adds a nice modern touch to the postcard keeping the students interested. As far as the "If you have just graduated..." I used a whimsical idea of enlarging some of the key words in the statement and alternating text size as well as using different colors to ensure that the reader knows the difference between key words and fill. The font I used for the postcard is, again, to ensure that the postcard sticks to my idea of being modern and i think that the fonts i used are most definitely computerized font. I used the design principle emphasis in "V.I.S.C.O.M." to let the reader know exactly what the postcard is advertising and made sure that the reader sees that first. I used alignment throughout the postcard to make everything organized so its not all over the place or jumbled up together, I used guidelines to do so. Balance was also incorporated to make sure the top of the postcard, the Apple Computer, is not heavier than the bottom of the post card, the type.
